Some of my clients

Martin has done a tremendous job facilitating an incubator program with us, where film distribution professionals entered as strangers and left as teams, even founding businesses together. His analytical skills, adaptability, deep understanding of personality dynamics and team interactions as well as a remarkable ability to bring order to chaos make him a truly exceptional facilitator - one we hope to collaborate with many more times.
— Verena Kurz, Managing Partner, Some Fine Day Pix gGmbH, Germany
I greatly appreciated working with Martin; he’s not only easy to work with, he has exceptional people and facilitation skills, really takes in what his client is trying to achieve and draws upon a great toolbox of ideas to design innovative and interesting workshop programs.
— Dr Angela Samuel, Director International Relations, National Measurement Institute, Australia
Never before have I been so relaxed during such a challenging workshop. With Martin, I simply knew everything was in the best hands.
— Jolanda Conrad, Project Manager, GIZ GmbH, Germany
Martin’s structured manner combined with his ability to respond very flexibly to workshop dynamics really impressed me. It was exactly what we needed and ultimately made the workshop a success.
— Erfan Diebel, Head of Project, GIZ GmbH, Iraq
A big thank you to Martin and his support in this challenging team workshop. The facilitation was tennis at its finest!
— Stefan Mager, Head of Project, GIZ GmbH, Kosovo

Je travaille en français. I work in English. Und auf Deutsch.

Who I am

First of all, I am a certified systemic organisational consultant, trainer, facilitator and graduate in public administration with 23 years of professional experience, including 6 years in Benin and Tunisia. Since 2014 I have been working as an independent consultant with a focus on consulting, facilitation and training. Having traveled the world for my clients for many years, I increasingly focussed on remote team collaboration and virtual / hybrid facilitation of workshops, team, and stakeholder processes.

Throughout my career, I have carried out numerous assignments in international cooperation, the public sector and the private sector. I feel at ease in a large range of subjects and contexts. You will find me quickly understanding the particularities of each work context as well as group dynamics in each environment you put me in. Among my workshop attendees were ministers, high-level managers, generals, ambassadors, and a UN Undersecretary General. In addition to facilitating high-ranking events, I also enjoy working with small agile teams.

In my work, I use interactive and agile methods, while always building onto the 'form-follows-function' principle. My clients value my structured, results-based approach as well as being able to work trustfully and effectively with very different kinds of people.

What defines my work

  • I use the systemic approach primarily for analytical purposes. It helps to ‘read’ organisations and their change dynamics and enables me to gain an in-depth and comprehensive understanding of the organisation and its dynamics. The systemic view helps to grasp the big picture and to explore the interplay between the various players and factors. Based on this analysis, I make decisions about how I design my consulting interventions.

  • In the second step, the Gestalt approach specifically helps me to facilitate and support change in my client organisations. In doing so, I rely primarily on the ‘Cycle of Change’ of the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland. Creating an awareness of change, mobilising the energy for change and dealing with resistance in an appropriate way pave the way for innovative changes off the beaten track, with the aim of achieving the highest possible, concrete added value for my clients that can withstand the daily challenges.

  • When implementing specific measures, I take elements from agile project management, such as short feedback cycles, continuous learning, flexible control and readjustment in change processes, high customer orientation and transparency in decisions and processes. I embrace the agile principles and am familiar with SCRUM and Design Thinking.

  • Espeacilly when it comes to creating strong connections between team members or resolving conflict in a team, I add nervous system-based approaches to my work. I also use elements of the Polyvagal Theory to give virtual and hybrid meetings a much more humane and natural athmosphere.

This leads me to adopt a consulting approach and work style characterised by the following:

  • Process Facilitation - Enabling and Moderating: Mobilising the existing knowledge and skills within organisations and empowering them to develop appropriate goals, structures, processes, and a cohesive collaborative environment on their own.

  • Consideration of "Hard" and "Soft" Factors: In addition to focusing on organisational structure and processes, giving equal attention to the people, leadership issues, and teamwork.

  • Participatory, Transparent, and Interactive: Engaging and involving professionals and leaders in the process on an equal footing, thereby ensuring the sustainability of change processes.
